FROM ORGANIC TO ORGANIZATIONAL: UNVEILING THE CHURCH’S TRUE IDENTITY

LMV: This is Pearlpod uncovering untold stories, faith journey, and Church history. My name is Leigh Murphy Verere and I'm your host.

Adams: Hi everyone, my name is Adams Joseph, and I am your co-host. Welcome to an exciting journey.

LMV: You have undoubtedly heard that the Church is an organism, not an organization.

The big question is: Why are we still compromised? Join us in this episode, “From Organic to Organizational,” as we unveil the Church's true identity, exploring the tension between her organic essence and organizational expression.

[Interlude]

Adams: Let’s start by asking you the big question you posed earlier. Why are we still compromised?

LMV: Because we can’t help ourselves. Once we’ve slipped out of the organic model we were condemned to spiritual blindness. Imagine a person without a heart fitted with a mechanical device, pulsing as if with life but a living dead.

Adams: You mean this imagery portrays the reality of the Church?

LMV: It portrays the reality of the Church long derailed from her essence and mission.

Adams: Derailed? Really? Tell us LMV, what was the early Church like in comparison?

LMV: The early Church wasn’t an institution; I mean not an organization, because it was founded on an organic structure. It was a flexible, adaptable, decentralized, and dynamic spirit-led community. Everyone cultivated a deeper knowledge of the Gospel, experienced spiritual revelation and growth while enjoying authentic fellowship with God and the community.

Adams: You speak of an enabling habitat where spiritual gifts flourished. Such an atmosphere must have created a sense of belonging, support, and accountability.

LMV: Yes, that’s exactly what it was. Decision-making was a collective effort and leadership was a natural response to the Holy Spirit's guidance.

Adams: Those were the golden days, I dare say.

LMV: Exactly, days when the Church was purpose-driven, when she embraced diversity, valuing every individual's spiritual gift, and accompanied by great grace.

Adams: And it’s obvious we’ve lost that beautiful momentum of the golden age. So how did we become compromised?

LMV: With time, the Church shifted to prioritizing human-led structures. That eventually marked the end of the organic model.

Adams: You mean human controls led to the collapse of the organic Church?

LMV: Absolutely! As men gained firmer control over Christ’s flock, the Holy Spirit was systematically sidelined, fostering a culture of compromise of God's will and sovereignty.

Adams: Did you say as men gained control over the flock, God’s will and sovereignty were compromised?

LMV: It was beyond the change of model from organic to organizational. We must understand that it's bigger than we assume! The Church, like Adam, was deceived and robbed of her light, purpose, glory, and dominion. An institutionalized expression of Christianity, as we have it today, means that God’s control; indeed, His will to impart His life to us was subverted. The embrace of human control means God’s sovereignty has been compromised. It’s unfortunate how institutionalism has become the norm rather than the exception.

Adams: I don’t get it. How come we all fell for this sly stride of Satan? And it didn’t start today. You can fool some people sometimes, but can you fool all the people all the time?

LMV: It’s ironic! The Elect-lady was oblivious that she’d been polluted and polarized despite being warned she would.  “… And this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come…” 1 John 4 verse 3.  The blindness prevailed for as long as it was part of God’s plan in His determinate counsel. This was part of what the prophet Isaiah and Apostle John were commanded to seal up until the cities were utterly wasted.

Adams: I get it. God chose to hide the matter… And the honor of kings to search it out! Yeah. It’s the glory of God to hide a matter…!

LMV: Those who searched it out were seen as dissenting voices and they were systematically silenced.

Adams: But history had it that there were schisms.

LMV: Yes, Adams. There arose contentions, notably the historical Great Schisms which led to further devastations: denominationalism, commercialism, and ecumenism.

Adams: I know that Jesus warned the early Church concerning her derailment. In Revelation 2 verses 4-5. He said: “I have this against you, that you left your first love... repent and do the first works, or else I am coming to you swiftly and will move your lampstand out of its place unless you repent.”

LMV: The lampstand represents the Church’s sure foundation. Had she safeguarded her lampstand, a vibrant, living organism wouldn't now have become a mere institution.

 .

Adams: Does it mean the cities have been utterly wasted? I mean, has the Church been utterly desolated? Does it seem so?

LMV: Joe, the times are fulfilled. The Church is ready to die, ready to be phased out but doesn’t know it. Jesus gave a prophetic warning to the Church of this present age in Revelation 3 verse 2 saying: “Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.”

Adams: We’re in grave distress!

LMV: Jerusalem lies waste, Joe, burnt with an unholy fire and we are hardly bestirred.

Adams: Shouldn’t we have realized?

LMV: It would have been our honor to find it out. Had we taken precautions, repented, and returned to our first love; to the organic, spirit-led model of the early Church, we would be singing hallelujah rather than a dirge. We must rediscover our true path and reclaim our dominion, purpose, and lost glory!

Adams: We can do it!

LMV: Yes, we can! I heard the Lord say concerning us, “You are a mighty generation!”

Adams: Indeed, we are! “Who’s on the Lord’s side?” “Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach."

LMV: There’s nothing more to add, brethren. To redeem the Church, return her to authentic organic communities, and restore true spirituality is a task committed to our generation!  We must all join in prayers, praying fervently in tongues to be numbered amongst the mighty, among the raisers of the desolations of former generations.

Adams: I’m sorry we have come to the end of this exciting journey. Thanks for being there. Tune in next time for another inspiring encounter.
