LMV: This Pearlpod and you are welcome.  I'm your host, Leigh Murphy Verere. The Church has slipped into the valley of the shadows of death. Darkness has shrouded the leadership and fellowship, hiding the devastating consequences of institutionalism.

Adams: Hi, beloved. I’m your co-host and my name is Adams Joseph.

LMV: Today, we are beginning a three-part series: “The Three Insidious Sins of Institutionalism.” We'll delve into part one and explore “Subversion of God’s Sovereignty,” as it relates to the destruction of the foundations of our shared faith.

Adams: Wow, I’m ready and hope you are too for an exposition voyage that will challenge everything we thought we knew about the Church.

LMV: Have you ever felt like something's off in your assembly like the focus shifted from aligning with God's will and guidance to following human rules and traditions?

Adams: Yes of course. That happens when the Holy Spirit is sidelined.

LMV: That’s outright rebellion and a good example of subversion of God’s sovereignty; the right of the Creator to orchestrate every event, circumstance, and decision of our lives with His divine plan.

Adams: How are we to understand that on the one hand, God has a will and a right to orchestrate every situation of our lives, yet on the other hand, He created us as free moral agents?

LMV: Well, in His infinite wisdom and love, God created man a free moral agent but empowered him through the divine will to be fruitful, multiply, replenish, subdue, and dominate the earth. God ordained man a free moral agent with the choices placed before him to fulfill the divine will or be damned. Adam’s mandate was to cause righteousness to flourish and cover the Earth like the waters cover the sea, or be subsumed in proliferating evil upon the Earth to his detriment.

Adams: So God’s will was designed and ordained to empower man to fulfill the divine purpose? It must be understood that it’s the power of God bestowed on man to spread righteousness to every nook and cranny of the world.

LMV: Yeah. Man was given the right and privilege of choosing to do God’s will or suffer damnation. A dog is created to be a dog. It cannot but be a dog. But man was created in God’s image. It’s his choice to fulfill destiny or reject God’s love, will, wisdom, and power.

Adams: How can man embrace God’s will to fulfill destiny? How can one receive this power, if I may ask?

LMV: The love, will, wisdom, and God’s power are rooted in the knowledge and understanding of His ways not as man gives but as God gives. As it is written: “Flesh and blood hath not told you this but my Father…” It behooves, therefore, that for man to fulfill God’s will, he must endeavor to seek the understanding of God’s ways from the only source. That’s the essence of fellowship between man and God.

Adams: Really? For many of us, fellowship is essential as long as it affords us to trade our pains for God’s blessings.

LMV: That’s the outcome but not the essence of fellowship.

Adams: I see. No wonder God visited Adam in the Garden daily to nourish him with fresh understanding, indicating that man must depend entirely on God to gain an understanding of the divine will to fulfill God’s mission and purpose for our lives and humanity.

LMV: Yes, the mind or heart that is conscious of these things is the mind that fears God. The phrase, “The fear of the Lord” connotes esteem for God’s will and sovereignty. This fundamental element of our faith became destroyed when we embraced institutionalism.

Adams: Institutionalism has, therefore, destroyed the foundations and framework of our relationship with God. So, tell me, folks, how can the Church remain chaste when she’s been disregarding God’s will and disrespecting His sovereignty for centuries? I think the blatant affront against God’s sovereignty by institutionalized Church leaders feigning ignorance of the cancerous rebellion over centuries is classical.

LMV: Institutionalism has destroyed the fabric of our faith. Given the overall significance of the organic model, it’s unthinkable how we could have undermined, compromised, and overlooked the evil of upholding institutionalized worship.

Adams: Such a high level of negligence is only attributable to the blindness resulting from the tendency to prioritize power, prestige, and personal gain over God’s will.

LMV: The concept of deeper intimacy with God is the central axis of the entire Bible. It's the thread that weaves together the narrative of God's relationship with humanity, from creation to redemption. This concept is the essence of organic Christianity – a faith that emphasizes a living, dynamic, and personal relationship with God, rather than a mere intellectual assent or external religiosity.

Adams: Organic Christianity recognizes that true faith is not just about doctrine or rituals, but about every believer cultivating a deep, intimate connection with God. Therein lies the power that transforms our lives, and empowers us to live as ambassadors of Christ in this world.

LMV: Yep. Nothing else but such a personal, intimate deep connection with God alone can transform our lives. Have you ever wondered why there is a proliferation of churches without a corresponding impact on society? Rather, evil is proliferating instead of righteousness?

Adams: You just highlighted the need for believers to return to the heart of the Gospel, embracing a more authentic, relational, and Spirit-empowered faith that reflects the biblical ideal of organic Christianity.

LMV: No matter how you look at it, the Church is guilty as charged. The rebellion against God’s sovereignty has fostered idolatry and spiritual abuse amongst other grievous transgressions. The colossal havoc of institutional worship is the opening of the sanctuary to Satan who desired to be worshiped upon the mount of the congregation. Hear the thoughts of Satan’s heart as exposed by God.

“For thou hast said in thine heart… I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation …” (Isaiah 14:13).

Adams: Indeed. The Church was subtly duped to worship the creature rather than the Creator when she replaced God’s leadership with human structures and traditions.

LMV: Yes, when her leaders were deceived and turned into idols of worship by whom Satan underhandedly receives worship, she shifted to a culture of self-centeredness and self-worship, becoming an enabling ground for Satan to play God, exercise authority, and dominion.

Adams: You also talked about spiritual abuse earlier.

LMV: Yes, spiritual abuse is another crucial outcome of the rebellion against God’s sovereignty. It stemmed from using vested authority to control, manipulate, and exploit the congregation.

Adams: That’s true. Such abuse, I dare say, has promoted a culture of religious fear, intimidation, and silence within the Church, undermining trust and credibility, and causing emotional and spiritual damage to individuals.

LMV: We can break free from these transgressions by returning the Church to her organic worship structure which creates an atmosphere of spiritual discipline, support, accountability, and authentic fellowship with God and community.

Adams: ‘’In humility we bring correction if God perhaps will grant us repentance, so that we may know the truth, and that we may come to our senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.’’ 2Timothy 2:26

LMV: As we round up this episode, join us in prayer, praying in fervid tongues against the snare of the Devil; the blindness of the heart resulting from the tendency to prioritize personal gain over God’s will. Remember that authentic organic communities, the Church’s restoration, and your transformation are the goals!
